Willis Named Jefferson Athlete of the Week

Watertown, NY— Freshman Guard, Jerry D. Willis, of the Jefferson Community College (JCC) men’s basketball team was named JCC athlete of the week for the week ending February 24, 2018.  JCC's athlete of the week program is sponsored by Victory Promotions and Under Armour.

Jerry, a 2016 graduate of Warren Mott High School, MI, is majoring in Individual Studies at Jefferson.  Willis’ accomplishments on the court this past week included being one of the most consistent players for the team.  The last week of the season saw the Cannoneers needing to win 2 of 3 games to make the playoffs, due in part to Jerry, Jefferson fulfilled that mission.  Against Tompkins Cortland Community College, he scored 16 points and was his consistent self, with the season coming down to one last possession.  Jerry would rebound the ball, go the length of the court, and hit the game winning 3 pointer from over 30 feet to propel the Cannoneers to a one point win!

JCC would then need a win against SUNY Broome on the road and they would win convincingly by over 40 points.  Next they would face the number 1 seed in the Mid State Athletic Conference Tournament, Onondaga Community College.  The Cannoneers gave them all they had with Jerry hitting timely shots to keep the Cannoneers close.  The final score would be Onondaga 71-Jefferson 69.

Jerry is a positive player for the team and was a pleasure to coach this year.  We wish him all the best in the next chapter of his basketball career.
