Jefferson Splits With Corning

The Jefferson Community College baseball team opened up their Mid State conference play with a double header at Corning Community College this past Saturday. The Cannoneers won the first game of the series with a final score of 6-3.  Benjamin Wilcox was the winning pitcher while throwing a solid 5 1/3 innings pitched, allowing just 1 earned run and striking out 6 batters. Ethan Straub relieved Wilcox, going 1 2/3 innings pitched, striking out 1 batter and allowing 1 earned run. The team's bats were hot early on by getting an early 5 run lead before Corning was able to get on the board. Hunter Holliday went 1-2 at the plate with 2 runs scored and driving in a pair of RBI's with a triple. Joshua Navarra also tallied a triple and 1 RBI, while going 1-2 at the plate as well.

Game 2 of the series went in the Red Barons favor, with a final score of 4-5. William Sanborn had a solid game at the plate, going 3-4 with 1 triple and adding an RBI to his resume. Wilber Guzman contributed 2 hits, including a double and 2 RBI's. Joshua Navarra went 4 innings pitched, while striking out 4 batters.

Jefferson will continue their Mid State conference play with 8 more games during their spring break this week, against Onondaga Community College, Tompkins Cortland Community College, Broome Community College, and Finger Lakes Community College.  All games are away.
