Cannoneers Win in Dramatic Fashion on Sophomore Night
The Cannoneers inched one step closer to a Mid State playoff berth with a dramatic, come from behind win over TC3 on Monday night. Jerry Willis would rebound a missed free throw by TC3 with 6 seconds left, go the length of the court and hit a 30 foot shot with .6 seconds left to gain the victory. The Cannoneers came back in dramatic fashion as they trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half.
The sophomore trio of Jerry Willis, Eli Smalls, and Marlon Richardson had huge nights for the Cannoneers. Willis would finish with 16 points and the game winning shot. Smalls would have his best game of the season and fuel the comeback with 29 points. Richardson ran the show and finished with 4 pts/8 assists. Also having big games were freshman Jake Hess with 15 points and keeping the Cannoneers in the game the first half. Liam Bonk had a huge game with 4 pts /10 rebounds and several key blocks at the end of the game.
#1 Jerry Willis:
Jerry leads the Mid-State Conference in steals per game at 3.3 and 5th in assists with 4.2 per game. He is also our 3rd leading scorer with 10 pts per game. Jerry is currently looking at Morehouse College and Clark College in Atlanta, GA.
#42 Elijah Smalls:
Eli is averaging 10 points per game and is our second leading rebounder with 5 per game. He is looking at continuing his education at Alfred State, Hilbert, or Davis College.
#24 Marlon Richardson:
Marlon leads the Mid-State Conference in assists averaging 7.2 per game and is 4th in steals with 2.8 per game. Marlon plans to either attend Cazenovia or Fredonia in the fall.
We, as coaches, would like to thank these three young men. Whether in the classroom or on the court, these three have always given their best effort. With Marlon, Jerry, and Elijah, we see qualities that will make them successful in life; hard working, respectful and self-motivated individuals. With these qualities, nothing should stop these three gentlemen from becoming successful in whatever profession they choose.
They will have many memories about their playing days here as Cannoneers that will last a lifetime. We wish them all the best in wherever life takes them. Good luck to all three!
