Bio

Coach Purvis is entering his first year as an Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach at SUNY Jefferson.  Rich brings with him 15 years of coaching experience at the high school level.

Prior to Jefferson, Rich was very much involved with the lacrosse program at General Brown High School. Coach Purvis was the Head Coach at the Modified level, then the Varsity Assistant Coach and then assumed the role of Head Coach of the Varsity program from 2014-2021. In those 8 years, General Brown became a Frontier League leader with multiple league titles and sectional playoff success with an overall record of 83-36. During this time Coach Purvis was fortunate to have coached 4 All Americans and several players that went on to have success at the college level. Coach Purvis was also a Frontier League and Section 3 “Coach of the Year”. 

Coach Purvis is a retired detective of 20 years with the Watertown Police Department. He currently resides in Sackets Harbor with his partner, Paula, a retired teacher from Carthage Central School District. Rich has two children, Jake and Taylor, both past collegiate lacrosse players and graduates of General Brown HS. Rich’s stepdaughter Natalli is a Syracuse University graduate. Coach Purvis also has 3 wonderful grandchildren and future stars of the game-Ryder, Avery and Laken.
