Lady Cannoneers Split with Cayuga

In game one, Courtney Cochran led significantly on the mound, holding Cayuga to one run until the bottom of the 8th inning.  Cochran totaled 7 strikeouts, while allowing only 2 runs in 8 innings of work.  Katelyn VanBrocklin was also instrumental on defense, throwing a runner out at home plate from center field, leading to the double play to end the inning and keep JCC in the lead.  She also scored the only Lady Cannoneer run of the game on the double from teammate, Kacie Updike.  Updike led the offense, finishing 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 double. JCC went on to lose the game in extra innings, 2-1.

In game two, Jefferson trailed for majority of the game.  Going into the seventh inning, JCC was down 3 runs with 2 outs.  Janeen Gomez got on base on the walk, followed by the single from Samantha DibbleMackenzi Goutremout scored Gomez and Dibble on the 2- run double to put JCC down by 1.  With Goutremout on second, Katelyn VanBrocklin stepped up to the plate and sent one over the left-field fence to end the game with a 2-run walk-off home run.  VanBrocklin finished the game 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.  Logan Kirchoff also showed her strength at the plate, contributing 2 doubles, resulting in 2 RBIs, finishing 2 for 4 on the day. JCC finished the double header 1-1, achieving their first win of the season. Emma Vaughn also led on the mound, having a career high 8 strike outs.
