Jefferson Softball Sophomores Honored

Sophomore Day at the Fairgrounds as the Cannoneers honor this year's sophomores while hosting Broome Community College in a doubleheader looking to extend their win streak to double digits.  Sophomores Rachael Shackleton and Brooke Beleza led the offense in game 1, combining for 7 hits.  Beleza went 4-4 with an RBI in the game and Shackleton went 3-4 driving in 3 RBIs of her own.  The Cannoneers put up one run in the 1st inning and never looked back, as they would lead for the entirety of the game.  Emily Birmingham tossed another solid outing; 6 IP, 1 ER, 8 Ks.  Sophomore Hailey Cunningham walked the Cannoneers off with a two-run single in the 6th to end the game via mercy rule, 9-1.

Game 2 the offense scored many runs early putting up a 3 spot in the second and third inning.  However, the offense was quiet after that.  Kiannah Ward and Hailey McGrew highlighted the Jefferson offense in game 2.  Ward popped her 5th homer of the year on a 2-4 game, and Hailey McGrew went 3-3 with 2 RBIs.  Broome was able to crawl back slowly throughout the game to cut the lead to 6-4 in the 7th inning, however, Shackleton continued to pitch well in her sophomore campaign picking up the win.  Her final line - 7 IP, 3 ER, 12 Ks.  Jefferson swept SUNY Broome on sophomore day with a 6-4 game 2 win extending their win streak to 11 games.
