#31 Chelsey Raven vs Davis

The Lady Cannoneers Defeat the Lady Panthers

On Tuesday night the Lady Cannoneers opened up their Mid State Athletic Conference schedule on the road against Tompkins Cortland Community College. Jefferson jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead on the panthers. Tompkins Cortland would settle in and make a charge seeing Jefferson hold a 22-14 first quarter lead. After their hot start the Lady Cannoneers caught a bit of a cold steak through the second quarter as Tompkins Cortland continued to fight back. Jefferson held a 35-30 halftime lead.

Jefferson responded after the break with a third quarter surge out scoring Tompkins Cortland 27-15 to take a 62-45 3rd Quarter lead. Jefferson would complete their first conference win of the year behind their best defensive performance yet. Eight Lady Cannoneers contributed points on the offensive end led by freshman forward Chelsey Raven's 21 points. Freshman guard Ashlyn Eyles contributed 18 points, and Freshman forward Alyson Crosby pulled down 15 rebounds for the Cannoneers. "This was our best defensive game of the year, everyone was active and we challenged the Lady Panthers in the half court. I'm really proud of our work so far on the defensive end, it really showed tonight in our performance. We have 3-4 players that have a knack for doing whatever we need them to do for us to win. They might not always be leaders in the box score for us, but they have consistently done jobs that have allowed us to win. It's very exciting to see this early in the year!" Stated Coach Woodward after the game. Jefferson will turn around and match up with Herkimer on Thursday night at 5 pm in the McVean Center Gymnasium.
