Jefferson Women's Basketball Sophomores and their families

Women's Basketball Sophomores Recognized

Last night the Jefferson Women's Basketball team recognized their five Sophomores, Katy Nortz, Madison Besaw, Sierra Fleming, Hanna Misercola, and Paige Hamilton as they played their last home game of the regular season as a Jefferson Lady Cannoneer.  Jefferson went on to defeat Tompkins Cortland Community College 74-65.  Chelsey Raven led the Lady Cannoneers with 24 points.  Alyson Crosby brought down 11 rebounds.

#15 Katy Nortz

Katy entered our basketball program after a productive High School career at General Brown. She immediately made an impact on our program as one of the best teammates, and most reliable competitors we've had. Katy's ability to pick her teammates up, and communicate both on and off the floor has been a tremendous asset to our program over the last two years. She has repeatedly handled the ball under pressure, she dished out a career high 7 assists against Schenectady, and registered 6 assists on 3 other occasions. After graduation this May, Katy plans to continue her academic career at Oswego State in the Fall.

#5 Madison Besaw

Maddy came to Jefferson after a stellar High School career at Paul V. Moore in Central Square. We knew immediately what type of competitor we were getting in Maddy. She has grown into her role as sophomore leader, and expanded her game and her ability to contribute for us on the hardwood. A testament to her toughness Maddy has battled several injuries in her time with us, but has yet to let any of them get her down. She has embodied the type of work ethic we want to establish in our basketball program day in and day out. Maddy has registered career highs in points with 24 against Finger Lakes CC, and last November, 11 rebounds and 8 assists against Fulton-Montgomery. Maddy will continue her athletic and academic career at Oswego State in the Fall.

#20 Sierra Fleming

Sierra made her way to Jefferson after a standout High School career at Hammond Central. She stepped right into our program as a freshman and immediately made an impact on the floor for us. Sierra has an uncanny ability at putting the ball in the basket. She produced a stellar freshman year averaging 17.9 point per game, and 7.1 rebounds per game. She was selected to the Mid-State Athletic Conference All-Conference Team, and to the Third Team All-Region 3 Team. She has continued to expand her game and produce for us in many more ways than just scoring. Currently Sierra is second in MSAC play with 5.6 assists per game, and 4th with 2.9 steals per game. Sierra is currently undecided on her college plans, but hopes to further her athletic and academic career at a 4 year institution.

#24 Hanna Misercola

Hanna made the short trip to our basketball program from Watertown High. After a 3 year career, and a Frontier League All-Star award at Watertown, Hanna jumped right into the mix. Short handed in the post Hanna rose to the challenge and on most nights battled for 25-30 minutes down low. Hanna registered a career high 9 rebounds against Clinton CC last December, and logged 7 rebounds in 6 other games throughout the year. After graduation Hanna plans on continuing her academic career at Potsdam State where she will be working towards a degree in Childhood Education.

#4 Paige Hamilton

Paige came to Jefferson from Hermon Dekalb, immediately she accepted the challenge of a position change from guard to post player. She consistently answered the bell despite serious height deficits on most nights. Paige accepted the learning curve and worked diligently at her new position, and role. Never complaining Paige battled for us every night! She registered a career high 12 points and 10 rebounds in a victory at Broome CC last February. Paige is working towards earning her associates degree in Math and Science, after which she plans on attending a 4 year institution to further her studies.
