Jefferson Suffers Tough Loss to the Hornets

The Lady Cannoneers hosted the MSAC Tournament on Saturday October 22, 2016. Jefferson defeated Onondaga Community College in the semi-finals in 5 sets: 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, and 15-12. This win put Jefferson in the finals against SUNY Broome Community College. Jefferson then lost to Broome in 5 sets having to settle for 2nd place in the conference, the scores were: 25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 20-25, and 13-15. Cassie Birth, Jenna Scott, Alea Gentles, and Chloe Stinebrickner were named to the MSAC All-Conference Team and Cassie was named the MSAC Player of the Year.  Jenna Scott fired up the defense with 55 digs and led the team in service points with 21. Cassie Birth also totaled 55 digs along with 38 kills. Alea had 13 kills and 4 blocks, while Chloe finished the day with 68 assists and 26 digs. Hannah Rook chipped in 8 kills and 3 blocks, Mariah Corbett finished with 7 digs, Meaghan LaClair had 17 digs, and Paige Durdon added 8 digs. Xanara Ruiz finished with 32 digs and 14 kills. The team is looking to put this heartbreaking loss behind them as they prepare for regionals this Saturday. They will face Jamestown, OCC, and Broome once again in their pool. The team finishes their season at 26-8 overall, 13-4 regionally, and 7-1 in the conference, certainly a very successful season yet again for the Lady Cannoneers.
