Jefferson Volleyball off to a Strong Start

The Jefferson Volleyball Team is off to a great start!  At the Jefferson Invitational at home on September 1, 2018, the Lady Cannoneers finished in 2nd place out of 8 teams, only losing in the Championship match against Monroe Community College.  To start the day, JCC defeated Mohawk Valley Community College in two sets:  25-9 and 25 - 10.  Next up was Finger Lakes who Jefferson defeated in three sets:  25-13, 20-25, and 15-7.  The last match in pool play was against Fulton Montgomery, JCC won in two sets:  25-20 and 25-23.  This put Jefferson in 1st place in the pool going against Corning Community College.  The Lady Cannoneers won in 3 sets:  16-25, 25-21, and 15-12.  Finally, Jefferson fell to Monroe in two tough sets:  23-25 and 21-25.  Finishing the day 4-1 was a good lead in to Sunday's tough MSAC match against Corning.  Jefferson was again victorius in three sets:  25-12, 25-20, and 25-8.  Alexa Runyon dominated the front line accumulating 18 blocks and 35 kills on the weekend.  Allison Burrows compiled 16 kills and 77 digs, Maggie Vazquez finished with 6 blocks and 17 kills, while Alyssa Evans added 14 kills.  Kelsey Finster accumulated 57 assists while Mallory Harter added 21 assists and 40 digs.  Jenna Wilson led the defense with 57 digs, Nicole O'Connor chipped in 25 digs, and Sara Archer finished with 14 digs.  Grace Gehrke put up a solid block in the front row with Alexa and finished with 5 kills while Savvy Baker finished with 3 digs.  The team will play Finger Lakes Thursday night at 7:00 pm, this will be another tough conference match, come to JCC to support the girls!
