Jefferson Volleyball Come Up Big This Past Weekend Overcoming Loss to OCC

The Lady Cannoneers finished off a tough regional week 3-1 with their only loss to OCC last Wednesday in 4 sets:  18-25, 13-25, 25-18, and 20-25.  This loss sent coaches back to the drawing board to switch some players around in hopes of making improvements for the weekend.  It definitely paid off as the Cannoneers defeated Finger Lakes again in 5 sets:  25-14, 17-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 15-8, then Genesee in 3 sets:  25-17, 25-20, and 25-17, and finally Monroe in 3 sets:  27-25, 25-22, and 25-17.  These 3 regional wins against teams currently ranked above JCC will certainly pay off down the stretch.  Marjorie Vazquez moved to the outside hitter position and really sparked the team both offensively and defensively compiling 31 kills, 60 digs, 5 blocks, and 34 service points for the week.  Having Maggie on the court for 6 rotations on Saturday was certainly a positive change. Alexa Runyon took charge of the net and compiled 33 kills and 12 blocks.  Allison Burrows remains a steady force and racked up 34 kills and 68 digs.  Grace Gehrke chipped in 3 blocks, Alyssa Evans tallied 20 kills, Nicole O'Connor finished with 16 digs.  Mallory Harter continues to be a dominant force in the libero position and compiled 76 digs, Sara Archer added 13 digs, and Savanna Baker chipped in 7 digs but had to sit the weekend out due to an injury.  The Cannoneers will play an undefeated Broome team this Wednesday at home at 6:00, come on out and support the girls!
