#5 Kelsey Finster

Jefferson Volleyball Ready for Play-Offs

Jefferson finished regular season play with a huge victory against the previously undefeated #1 Jamestown Community College.  This victory made up for the slow start the Lady Cannoneers had on Sunday.  Their 12 game winning streak came to an end against Erie Community College in 4 sets:  25-22, 20-25, 19-25, and 23-25.  The team quickly turned it around and defeated Niagara Community College in 3 straight sets:  25-5, 25-11, and 25-16.  Finally, Jefferson faced Jamestown and came out on top in 5 sets:  19-25, 25-20, 26-24, 17-25, and 15-11.  This was the match the team had been waiting for; after ending Broome's undefeated run earlier in the season, they wanted to do the same to Jamestown, thus showing what this young team is really capable of.  Jefferson ends regional play at 14-3 and will be going into the Regional Tournament ranked #3.  Alexa Runyon stepped up her aggressiveness and finished the day with 37 kills and 14 blocks.  Allison Burrows played through a new arm injury to rack up 12 kills and 32 digs, Marjorie Vazquez once again proved to be a go-to player with 34 kills and 38 digs, and Alyssa Evans is the one to get the credit with the final kill in set 5 of Jamestown and finished the day with 7 kills and 11 digs.  Kelsey Finster chased down every pass to better the ball for her hitters and ended 80 kills and 27 digs.  Grace Gehrke came up with some big plays and chipped in 8 kills and 2 blocks while Mallory Harter led the defense with 47 digs.  Nicole O'Connor finished with 8 digs, Sara Archer added 10 digs, and Savanna Baker compiled 12 service points.  The team hosts the MSAC Tournament this Saturday and will play OCC in the semi-final match at noon, come on out and support the team!  This will be the last time they play at home this season!
