The Lady Cannoneers Suffer 2 Regional Losses

Jefferson Volleyball finally fell to the pressure and suffered 2 regional losses along with a conference loss to Corning on Sunday.  After an impressive victory on Wednesday over Broome in 3 sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-19) the team fell short to Monroe in five sets on Saturday (21-25, 22-25, 25-15, 26-24, 8-15).  The team struggled to regain composure and fell to Finger Lakes in 3 sets (24-26, 17-25, 21-25) but ended the day on a positive note beating Genesee in 3 sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-19).  Unfortunately this win was not enough to set the ladies back on track for an early morning conference match against Corning and they fell in 4 sets (22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 24-26).  Going 2-3 on a week full of tough matches was certainly not the outcome Jefferson had intended for, but will now focus on what lies ahead in order to qualify for the regional tournament.  This puts Jefferson at 14-4 overall, 5-2 in the region, and 3-1 in the conference.  Marjorie Vazquez led the offense with 62 kills in the five matches, Allison Burrows compiled 51 kills, Brooke Everson added 24 kills and Alyssa Evans chipped in 14 kills.  Jenna Wilson led the defense with 58 digs and Nicole O'Connor added 17 digs.  Savanna Baker had a steady serving week and added 9 service points, Grace Gehrke tallied 3 blocks, Aliza Deasy finished with 5 kills, Abigail Sullivan finished with 8 service points, and Kelsey Finster finished tallied 147 assists in 5 matches.  The team will look to regroup this week and prepare for 3 more regional matches on Sunday, September 29th at MVCC.  Sophomore night is Wednesday, October 2nd, come on out and support the girls!
