Freshman Piper Warren

Warren Named MSAC XC Female Runner of the Year

Congratulations to Piper Warren

for being named the

2018 MSAC Cross Country Female Runner of the Year.

Piper had a great race on Saturday at the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship race at the Finger Lakes Community College Newark campus.  She lead the Cannoneer women out to a strong start and quickly pulled away from the rest of the field and was running all alone by the half mile mark.  She continued to run strong up a hilly second mile and pulled away even more; she was able to cruise through the last mile and comfortable won by almost 2 full minutes over a tough 5 kilometer course.  Piper's win earned her MSAC Female Runner of the Year and All-Conference Honors.  Piper's time for the 5k course was 22:39.78

Jasmine Harris also had a fantastic race on Saturday. She went out fast and strong with the lead pack and found herself battle back and forth between 3rd and 4th place.  After a strong hilly second mile Jasmine was able to pull slightly ahead and with a surge up the final hill she was able to pull far enough ahead to hold off 4th place down the final stretch.  She finished an amazing race and held on to 3rd place in a "photo" finish by a mere 25 hundreds of a second.  Jasmine's time for the 5k course was 26:20.07.  She also earned Mid-State Athletic Conference All-Conference honors.

Kayla Ruttan finished 6th with a time of 27:22.97 and Maddi Sochia finished 11th with a time of 31:08.82.

On the men's side, Noah Newton had a strong performance.  He got out well at the start and mentally stayed in a long, tough 5 mile course.  He battled the entire way moving up a few places throughout the race at key points on the course.  Noah finished a strong race in 22nd overall in the conference.  Noah's time was 38:10.85. Wesley Coombs finished 26th with a time of 39:08.88.
