2018 MSAC Championship Race Piper Warren, Kayla Ruttan, Jasmine Harris, and Maddi Sochia

Warren Finished 2nd in the 2018 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Meet

Cannoneer cross country runners ran well this past weekend at the NJCAA Region 3 Cross Country Championship race despite cold, wet, rainy and windy weather conditions.  The meet was held on a slippery Proctor Park course in Utica, NY with the women racing 5 kilometers and the men racing 8 kilometers.

Piper Warren led the Cannoneer women and had another great showing.  She got out well and ran in 2nd place through the first mile before dropping to 3rd and battling between 2nd and 3rd for a good part of the race.  Piper had a strong surge with a half mile to go and was able to definitively pull into 2nd place where she finished with a time of 21:49 and earned runner-up honors for the region.

Jasmine Harris, Kayla Ruttan and Maddison Sochia ran strong the entire course and all 3 had collegiate personal bests in a weather equalizing race.  They finished 11th (25:17), 13th (26:11) and 24th (30:23) respectively.

Noah Newton competed in the men's race and had his best race of the season.  He got out well and stayed strong battling back and forth with those around him.  Noah stayed strong late in the race and was able to open up a gap between those right behind him and finished the 8 kilometer course 38:16 and 40th overall for the Region.

The Cannoneer women runners will compete next weekend in the NJCAA DIII National Championship Cross Country meet held at Stanley Park in Holyoke, MA.
