The 2nd ranked Cannoneers split With Top Ranked Herkimer in a Region III Eastern Division Double header

Game #1:         Jefferson 6 – Herkimer 3

Cannoneer starter Jacob Welch (Spencerport, NY) pitched his 5th complete game of the season moving to 6-1 overall. Welch provided 7 innings of work, allowing 8 hits, 2 walks, 3 earned runs, and struck out 3. At the plate Nicolas Espino (Bronx, NY) provided 2 hits that drove in 3 runs. Jordan Parker (Rochester, NY) and Erric Barnier (London, ONT) each provided 2 hits apiece.

Game #2:         Jefferson 0 – Herkimer 1

Game two of the double header was a pitcher's duel in which the only and last run of the game came in the bottom of the 7th.  Jefferson starter Mitchell Dubois (Oneida, NY) pitched a 6 inning 5 hitter surrendering the 1 earned run that would end the day for the Cannonners. Starter for Herkimer Joe Kuzia went the whole way as well pitching 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, and striking out 9. The Cannoneers had plenty of missed opportunites through the game to drive in a run but failed to cash in. 3 separate innings Jefferson put a runner in scoring position with one out or less and left them on base.

The split moves Jefferson to 23-14 overall and 17-5 in the Region III Eastern Division. The Cannoners finish the 4 game series with top ranked Herkimer Thursday at the Watertown Fairgrounds.

The Cannoneers have 6 games remaining on their Region III Eastern Division schedule. Double headers with Herkimer, Hudson Valley, and Adirondack. The Cannoneers now sit at second place in the division and look to draw their first playoff appearance in Coach Northrop's tenure as head coach, and for the first time since 2007.
