Simmons Commits to Coker College

Sophomore Kyle Simmons has accepted an athletic scholarship to play at Coker College in South Carolina. Coker is coming off a 2013 season where they were 38-16 overall, South Atlantic Conference Champions, and earned a trip to the NCAA DII World Series Tournament in Cary, North Carolina.

Simmons received NJCAA All-American, 1st team All - NJCAA Region III, and 1st Team Mid-State Conference honors after a strong freshmen season. At the plate Simmons finished with 70 hits, 14 doubles, 8 triples, 55 RBI, and a .452 batting average playing in 45 games at Shortstop. On the mound, Simmons also led the Cannoneers in saves, posting 3 saves with 1 win in 5 appearances.

Simmons also played for the Fulton Railroaders (Fulton, Kentucky) in the Ohio Valley League during the summer of 2013, hitting .266 in 40 games played. Fulton would go on to win their division, and the Ohio Valley League Championship.

Kyle is expected to transfer into Coker and compete at Shortstop right away for the fall of 2014. Prior, Simmons is looking to improve on a strong freshmen season, to help bring the Cannoneers back to the Region III playoffs.
