Jefferson Goes 2-3 in Their Last 5 Game Maryland Swing to Finish at a Record of 4-5

Friday March 14th:           JEFFERSON 9 – Anne Arundel 2

The Cannoneers got off to a good start by winning game one behind sophomore starting pitcher James Matthews III (Camden, NY). Matthews pitched 8 strong innings only allowing 2 earned runs to cross, striking out 8, and giving up only 2 walks. For Matthews this was his first win of the season. Freshmen Emerson Gross (Selden, NY) pitched a scoreless 9th inning. At the plate, the Cannoneers put up 9 runs in the first 4 innings while sophomore infielder Calder Roggie (Lowville, NY) led with 3 hits, and producing 3 RBI. Freshmen outfielder Alvin Valdez (Bronx, NY) also contributed 2 RBI.

Saturday March 15th:      Jefferson 0 – FREDERICK 10 (GAME #1)

NJCAA Division II power Frederick CC made the Cannoneers pay for costly mistakes in the match up. Frederick would attack early scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the first and tack on 3 more in the bottom of the second. Freshmen outfielders Alvin Valdez (Bronx, NY) and TJ Montalbano (Dix Hills, NY) each contributed a hit in the loss.

Saturday March 15th:      Jefferson 0 – FREDERICK 5 (GAME #2)

Frederick attacked early again in game 2 putting up 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st, and adding 3 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Cannoneers couldn't string the hits needed to put runs up, leaving 8 runners in scoring position on the day. Sophomores Kyle Simmons (Watertown, NY), Chris Ballester (Santo Domingo, DR), and Jason Hardie (Ajax, Ontario) each contributed a hit in the loss.

Sunday March 16th:         JEFFERSON 4 – Hagerstown 0 (GAME #1)

The Cannoneers closed out their Maryland trip with a double header versus NJCAA Division I Hagerstown. In game 1, sophomore pitcher Eury Villalona (Brooklyn, NY) pitched a complete game shut-out to earn his second victory of the season.  In the win, Villalona struck out 3, allowed 6 hits, and didn't give out a walk. At the plate, sophomore catcher Elliot Martin (Turin, NY) went 3-3 on the day and sophomore Calder Roggie (Lowville, NY) and freshmen first basemen Shavict Lora (Bronx, NY) each contributed 2 hits apiece.

Sunday March 16th:         Jefferson 8 – HAGERSTOWN 10 (GAME #2)

The Cannoneers held an 8-5 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning but couldn't hold on to complete the sweep. Hagerstown rallied to score 5 runs in the bottom frame, leading to a 10-8 win. Jefferson starter Kyle Simmons (Watertown, NY) exited the game with a 4 run lead, and earned a no decision in the game.  At the plate, sophomore catcher Jason Hardie (Ajax, Ontario) was 4-4 with a double, inside the park home run, and a walk on the day. Freshmen first basemen Shavict Lora (Bronx, NY) also contributed 3 hits including a double and a RBI.
