Cannoneers drop their season opening double header to NJCAA Division 1 Harford CC.

The Cannoneers started the 2015 season in Bel Air, Maryland facing Region XX Division 1 power Harford. The four game series was shorted to just two games due to winter weather that hit the Maryland region. Despite this being the first time Jefferson has been outside since November, they showed promise and talent to develop looking at their future Region III schedule.

Game 1: Jefferson 2 – Harford 11

The first game of 2015 was started by left handed pitcher Cameron Robbins (Clayton, NY). Robbins would pitch into the fourth inning providing four strikeouts and just allowing four hits. Harford put together a strong fourth and fifth inning tallying nine runs in the two frames which was too much for Jefferson to come back from. Arman Lakhani (Brampton, Ontario) and Billy Newcombe (Watertown, NY) provided two shutout innings of relief to close out the game offensively for Harford. Offensively for Jefferson, freshmen Hunter Thomas (Elmira, NY) went 3-3 in his first collegiate game. Sophomore Emerson Gross (Selden, NY) and Yonelle Firebrace (Whitby, Ontario) each provided a double in game one.

Game 2: Jefferson 3 – Harford 9

The second game of the double header was started by freshmen Tyler Stroud (Batavia, NY). Stroud would finish two innings of work striking out three, allowing just two hits. James Snelgrove (Adelaide, Australia) and Adrian Fittock (Melbourne, Australia) would close out the final three innings of game two on the mound combined striking out four and just surrendering two hits. Offensively Emerson Gross (Selden, NY) provided his second double of the day and freshmen Eder Hernandez (Queens, NY) added his first double of his college career.
Jefferson returns to action Saturday March 14th at NJCAA Region XX Division II power Frederick CC. They are scheduled for a four game series with games three and four scheduled for Sunday.
