Cannoneers earn Mid-State Conference split on the road at Onondaga

Game One: Jefferson 9 – Onondaga 4

In game one the Cannoneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. They would put up 8 runs before Onondaga could put a runner across the plate to score. Every batter in the Jefferson lineup recorded a hit, including three hits apiece from Michael Espino (Bronx, NY), Benjamin Godbout (Montreal, Quebec), and John Andrews (Apalachin, NY). Sophomore second basemen Joel Reynoso (Queens, NY) would chip in 3 RBI in the 18 hit – 9 run effort from the Cannoneer offensive.

Starting on the mound in game one was sophomore Tyler Stround (Warsaw, NY) who went on to record a complete game victory moving his overall 2016 record to 1-1. Stroud struck out 5 and did not surrender a walk over 7 innings of work.

Game Two: Jefferson 5 – Onondaga 8

In game two the Cannoneers would jump on the board early scoring one run in the top of the first inning on and Edward Corniel (New York, NY) RBI single scoring Hunter Thomas (Elmira, NY).

Onondaga would answer in the bottom of the 2nd scoring one, before the Cannoneers would put 2 runs on the board in the top of the 3rd making the game 3-1. In the 3rd, Corniel again drove in Victor Christiansen (Toronto, Ontario) with an RBI double and would later score on a wild pitch.
Onondaga eventually would rally in the 5th and 6th while the Cannoneers could not contain enough to stop their effort. The Lasers scored 3 runs in both innings brining the score to 8-5 where it would end when the final out in the seventh was recorded. In the second game Edward Corniel and Joel Reynoso both contributed two hits apiece.

The Cannoneers now finish their Mid-State schedule with double headers versus Broome, Finger Lakes, and Corning to finish out this week before Region III Divisional games start next Tuesday when they open up at home with Adirondack.
