Cannoneers Split with the Red Barons

The Jefferson Cannoneers finally saw the field this weekend after several cancellations due to weather. The team traveled to Corning Community College on Saturday to face the Red Barons.  In the first game, it came down to the last inning, the Cannoneers were down 5-7 going into the 7th.  JCC fought back scoring 4 runs to take the lead 9-7 in the top of the 7th.  Then comes Corning, not willing to have JCC take this one, putting up 3 more runs to take the 10-9 win over the Cannoneers. Michael Espino and Emmanuel Olivo each hit a triple while Conner Loveless added a double.  Robert Schmuck led the team with 3 hits and 2 RBI's.  Matthew Villalobos pitched 4 innings, struck out 5.

In the 2nd part of the doubleheader the Cannoneers took total control with a 12-1 win over the Red Barons.  The only run Corning scored came in the first inning after that it was all Jefferson.  Naim Bibovic led JCC with 2 hits, 4 RBI's and scoring 2 runs.  Michael Espino followed with 3 hits and scoring 2 runs.  Alberto Torres, Matthew Villalobos, and John Andrews each scored to 2 runs for Jefferson.  Benjamin Godbout also contributed 2 RBI's with his 2 hits.  Joshua Navarra pitched 5 innings, had 8 strikeouts and only gave up 1 run.  Joshua Harvey finished the game in the 6th striking out 2 batters.

The Cannoneers will face SUNY Adirondack tomorrow at home.  The games are set for 2:00 and 4:00 pm at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds.
