The Cannoneers Finish 1-1 on the Weekend

The Cannoneers entertained Schenectady County Community College on Saturday and came away with an impressive 85 -72 win.  The Cannoneers raced to a 38-10 lead in the first half and held a comfortable 53-36 lead at halftime.  In the second half the Royals did not go away easily, cutting the Cannoneer lead to 8 points, but a big 3 point basket by Caleb Green would help the Cannoneers hold on and cruise the rest of the way for victory number three.  Jagger Freeman led the way with 24 points, Dustin Pond and Damien Jackson chipped in with 17 points apiece.  In all, it was a great team effort and a good team win.

On Sunday, the Cannoneers would entertain the Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery Community College and suffered a tough 90-86 overtime loss.  It looked like the Raiders were going to have an easy game of it at the beginning as they got out to an early 10 point lead and had the Cannoneers in foul trouble throughout the first half.  The Cannoneers would not fold though and cut the deficit to 35-33 at half.  In the second half the Cannoneers found themselves in a hole again and were trailing by 12 points with 2 minutes to go.  The Cannoneers staged a furious comeback and tied the game on 2 Jagger Freeman free throws with 2 seconds left to force overtime.  In the overtime period the Cannoneers ran out of miracles and got outscored 16-12 to lose the game by the final score of 90-86, dropping their record to 3-4 overall.  Jagger Freeman once again led the way with 26 points followed by Dustin Pond with 16, Sam Widrick with 12 and Kenny Thomas with 10.  The Cannoneers fought hard but came away with a loss.  They will next be in action on Dec 7 as they travel to Columbia-Greene.
