Cannoneers Win in Overtime

Cannoneers Win in Overtime

The Cannoneers hosted the Broome Community College Hornets on Wednesday evening and came away with a hard fought 96-91 win in overtime at the McVean Center.  It was a very close game throughout until the Cannoneers seized control midway through the second half to extend their lead to 14 points, only to see the Hornets fight back and take a 1 point lead with less than 20 esconds left.  The Cannoneers had a couple of chances that missed the target only to regain possession with 3.5 seconds under their basket.  The play was executed perfectly with Latrelle Lee being fouled with 1.5 seconds left.  Latrelle calmly sank the first free throw and then had the second roll in and out.  The Hornets tried a desperation shot at the buzzer, that fell short.  In overtime, the Cannoneers finally were able to put away the Hornets and win the game on some timely shooting.  Leading the way for the Cannoneers were Christian Rohlehr with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 9 blocks.  Following closely behind were Javon Hunter with 19 points and 7 assists, Natell windley with 17 points and 6 assists, Karaan Newsome with 13 points, Ismaeel Safo with 10 points, Terris Purnell with 9 points and Latrell Lee with 8 points.  Another great team win for the Cannoneers and now they had into Mid State Athletic Conference playoffs and regionals.

Last night the 3 Sophomore were honored as well, Javon Hunter, Ismaeel Safo, and Natell Windley:

Javon Hunter #1 from Smyrna, Delaware, Ismaeel Safo #23 from Brooklyn, NY and Natell Windley #10  from Brooklyn, NY comprise this year's talented sophomore class.  This talented group has led the resurgence in this year's Men's basketball program here at JCC.  They have quadrupled their win total from the previous year and are on track to make playoffs and regionals for the first time in almost a decade.  They have shown great mettle in sticking with the program and because of this dedication, they are seeing positive results.

The coaching staff hopes that your experience here has taught you many things about basketball, as well as life.  I personally have seen these three young men mature in many ways and want them to have continued success in whatever they do.  The coaching staff would also like to thank these three young men for the memories from this past season.

Best of luck gentleman and we all wish you the best!
