Jefferson Men's Basketball Sophomore Night

Cannoneers Celebrate Sophomore Night With a Win

The Cannoneers hosted the Broome Hornets on Tuesday and came away with a nice 94-82 victory.  Leading the charge for the Cannoneers was Josh Newman with a huge 23 point/17 rebound game.  Jake Hess would chip in with 21 points, followed by Jalen Stewart with a 17 point effort.  Isiah Murphy would have a double/double of 11 points/10 assists as the Cannoneers pulled away in the second half.  Samori Alexander and Kyle Nichols would also give good minutes in the season ending win.  The Cannoneers now head into regional play as the 6th seed and have a home game at 1pm Saturday against an opponent TBA.

The Following Sophomores were honored last night:

#23 Jalen Stewart-Jalen has been with us one year and has been the quintessential teammate.  Jalen has been our sixth man and has been one of the reasons for the turnaround in record this year.  Jalen gives 100 percent, day in and day out, and pushes his teammates to compete every day.  Jalen is undecided on where he will attend school as of now.

#20 Liam Bonk-Liam has given a lot to the program in his two years and has shown steady improvement.  Liam has been a consistent starter in his two years and has had the responsibility of patrolling the paint.  Liam has unlimited potential to play at the next level and continues to improve every day.  Liam is undecided on where he will attend school as of now.

#25 Jake Hess –Jake has been one of the key reasons for the turnaround of fortunes for the Cannoneers this year.  He gives 100 percent every day and it is hard to keep him away from the court.   Jake's growth, demeanor, and competitiveness on the court these past two years will be hard to replace.  Jake is currently deciding between Hartwick College and SUNY Canton.

#32 Joshua Newman- Josh is another great teammate who has been one of the leaders of the Cannoneers in his two seasons with us.  Josh's skill and knowledge of the game will make him hard to replace in the line-up next year.  Josh is considering Cazenovia College to further his education and athletic talent.
