Jefferson Volleyball opens season with their 2017 Jefferson Invitational Tournament

The Jefferson Volleyball team began their season on Saturday with the Jefferson Volleyball Invitational and came away 3-1 for the day. The team got off to a quick start defeating Mohawk Valley Community College in 2 sets 25-17 and 25-22.  Next up was Finger Lakes Community College who Jefferson defeated in 3 sets 25-19, 19-25, and 15-9. The last team the ladies met in pool play was Corning Community College who they beat in two sets 25-19 and 25-23.  This put JCC in the semi-finals against Fulton Montgomery Community College who defeated the Lady Cannoneers in two sets 19-25 and 23-25. This proved to be a good start for the young team, consisting of 5 new starters.  Xanara Ruiz racked up 18 service points, 32 kills, and 51 digs. Kiley Ardison led the defense with 53 digs and 22 service points. Allison Miller had 21 kills, Bryanna Gagnon and Josie Wood each added 10 kills, and Mallory Harter chipped in 38 digs. Mariah Corbett had 11 digs, Courtney Boliver ended the day with 70 assists and Jenna Wilson added 6 service points. Alexa Runyon was only able to play against MVCC for the day and racked up 4 blocks in 2 sets. The team will travel to Finger Lakes on Wednesday night for their first conference game. They will be home again this Saturday, September 9th hosting the first round of regional play starting at 10:00, come on out and support the team!
