Softball Kicked off their Season in Maryland and New Jersey

To open the week, the Cannoneers headed to Montgomery Community College to play a doubleheader. In game 1, the offense struck early and often for 10 runs in 3 innings. Kaylee Johnson and Brianna Grant led the way with 3 hits while Rachael Shackleton and Brianna Grant both had 3 RBIs.  Shackleton also had a 1 run outing from the mound where she also posted 5 strikeouts on the way to the 10-1 Jefferson Victory.  Game 2 saw the offense blast 19 runs led by Emma Parslow and Brooke Beleza. Parslow went 4-5 from the plate with a homerun and 6 RBIS while Beleza pushed across 4 RBIs in a 2-4 effort at the plate. Brianna Grant this time led the way on the mound pitching 4 innings of 1 run ball with 4 strikeouts. 

The Cannoneers next dropped a pair of games at Harford Community College by the scores of 12-0 and 12-4.  Shackleton had a 4-7 day at the plate combined in the two games and Amy Manchester also posted a 2-3 effort. 

The following day, Jefferson headed to Anne Arundel College for a doubleheader. Game 1 was highlighted by strong pitching performances by Shackleton and Grant despite the defeat 5-1. Game 2 saw the Cannoneers have 5 different players all get 2 or more hits with Torie Moore leading the way with 3 RBIs. Kaylee Johnson and Rachael Shackleton also both homered in the game. However, a hard fought game was lost in the bottom of the 7th on a walk off to end game 10-9.

To wrap up the week, the Cannoneers headed to New Jersey to end the trip with a doubleheader against Camden County Community College. The team dropped the first game 12-4. Kaylee Johnson, Rachael Shackleton, and Torie Moore all had an RBI and Harlie Moore went 2-2 on the game. Game 2 saw the Cannoneers battle back behind the strong performance of Shackleton on the mound who pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts and only 3 runs. Brooke Beleza and Marissa Valvo led the offense with a combined 5 RBIs, both going 2-4 at the plate. The Cannoneers would go on to win game 2 by a score of 7-3.

The Cannoneer Softball Team looks to build off of what was a productive and positive opening week. The team will face Herkimer on the road on Tuesday, April 5th.
