The Lady Cannoneers Place 2nd in the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament!

The Lady Cannoneers placed 2nd and Onondaga Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament!  Over the weekend the ladies found a much needed spark and beat some tough teams, although they were not regional matches, the team certainly proved that they can be a threat as we head down the final stretch to Regionals.  The first match Friday night was against Northampton, who is ranked 6th in the Nation.  The team fell to Northampton in 2: 12-25 and 19-25.  The girls faced Monroe next and won in 3: 22-25, 25-11, 15-10.  This win gave the girls a huge boost to start the next day against Finger Lakes who they defeated in 3:  25-21, 20-25, 15-12.  Next the girls faced Herkimer and won in 2:  25-16, 25-22.  All three of these teams are ranked above Jefferson in Regional Standing so far.  This ended pool play and JCC went in ranked 2nd, which means they faced 7th ranked Delhi.  JCC defeated Delhi in 2:  25-16, 25-12.  Next up in the semi-finals was Finger Lakes again who defeated OCC in 3.  JCC went on to defeat Finger Lakes in 3 again:  26-24, 18-25, 15-11.  Finally, the team made it back to the finals and faced Northampton once again.  This time, the girls put up quite a fight but ended up falling in 2:  16-25, 15-25.  The Lady Cannoneers beat 3 teams they had lost to earlier in the season so it ended up being a very successful day, placing 2nd to Northampton was not an easy feat.  Ashley Capone and Haley Riley were named to the Cara Bryant Memorial All-Tournament Team.  Ashley compiled 19 service points, 63 kills, and 17 blocks while Haley added 41 service points, 27 kills, and 35 digs.  Co-captain Shelby Contryman was a steady force all weekend racking up 104 assists and 29 service points.  Kierstin Burke added 14 service points, 26 digs, and 19 kills.  Stephanie Ennist had 18 service points, 10 kills, and 13 digs while Haley Zicari added 6 digs and 5 service points.  Nikki Wormwood finished with 19 digs and Keysha De Jesus Ortiz added 18 digs.

The team faces OCC tomorrow night in a crucial conference match at home, 6:00.  It is the last home match of the season and the sophomores will be honored, come on out and support the girls!
