JCC Volleyball Season comes to an end at Regionals in Niagara Falls, NY.

JCC Volleyball Season comes to an end at Regionals in Niagara Falls, NY.

The Lady Cannoneers faced 3 difficult opponents in pool play and came up short of advancing to the semi-finals.  Jefferson played Corning first and ended 1-2:  25-19, 14-25, 19-25, next up was Monroe:  25-20, 24-26, 23-25, and then Niagara:  20-25, 19-25, 21-25.  The girls struggled throughout the day to find that team who beat OCC so easily on Tuesday to advance to Regionals, but just couldn't.  The season however was full of accomplishments:  going on a 12-4 run in October to qualify 8th for Regionals.  Finishing 2nd to nationally ranked Northampton at the OCC Invite Tournament, finishing 2nd in Conference Tournament, backing up a championship from last season, and ending the regular season with a 22-13 record.  This team has a lot to be proud of, September ended with an 8-8 record and these girls worked so hard to turn it around and end with a winning record and get to that final step of qualifying for Regionals.

As we finish the season I would like to share some final statistics.  Ashley Capone was named to the All-Tournament Team at OCC Invite, the All-Conference Team, to the 2nd -team All Region, and to the Regional All-Tournament Team.  She finished with 441 kills, 120 blocks, and 169 digs respectively.  Shelby Contryman compiled 145 digs, 255 service points and an amazing 901 assists!  Haley Riley ended with 311 digs, 320 service points and 309 kills, she was also named to the All-Conference Team.  Stephanie Ennist had a very solid season with 172 service points, 61 kills, and 119 digs while Kierstin Burke compiled 314 digs, 178 service points and 185 kills.  Haley Zicari added 103 service points and 87 digs, Keysha De Jesus had 71 service points and 127 digs while Nicole Wormwood finished with 71 service points and 127 digs.

Three players will be returning from the squad to continue the quest of a Regional Championship, Haley Riley, Nikki Wormwood, and Keysha De Jesus Ortiz.  Sadly, 5 sophomores will be moving on:  co-captains Ashley Capone and Shelby Contryman, Stephanie Ennist, Kierstin Burke, and Haley Zicari.  These five girls have found a lot of success over 2 seasons and that is because of their dedication and passion for the game.  Countless hours were poured in to this season before it even started and I would like to thank them for their commitment and bid them farewell as they head off to the next step after JCC.
