Jefferson Volleyball Opened their Season at Home this Weekend with the Jefferson Invitational

The Lady Cannoneers began their season at home on Saturday, September 6th.  This was the annual invite tournament where matches are played best of 3.  Eight teams across the region participated.  The first match for JCC was against Mohaw Valley Community College and the girls quickly went to business defeating Mohawk Valley in two, 25-12 and 25-16.  Next up was Finger Lakes Community College and the Lady Cannoneers pulled through in three sets:  25-23, 26-24, and 15-12.  A match against Corning followed and the girls lost a close battle in three sets:  19-25, 25-14, 13-25.  This placed the Cannoneers in 2nd place in their pool moving on to play Monroe Community College.  The Lady Cannoneers fell to Monroe in two sets:  16-25 and 22-25. During our match against Monroe,  Grace Wallace, Redfield, NY, an outside hitter, made an amazing attempt at the ball, diving over the chairs and coming up with the save along with 2 deep cuts on her chin.  This took her out of play for the rest of the day along with Sunday's match against Corning.  Jayne Strigle, Constableville, NY led the defense on Saturday with 47 digs while Haley Riley, Lowville, NY led the offense with 20 kills and 9 blocks.

On Sunday, the Lady Cannoneers battled Corning for 2 hours and 10 minutes only to lose the match in 5 games.  The girls battled hard throughout and never gave up on a very evenly matched opponent.  Once again Jayne Strigle came up big on defense adding 35 digs.  Haley Riley added 21 kills and 6 blocks.  Marissa Brown, Constableville, NY  put up 4 blocks and 6 kills respectively.

The team will face Finger Lakes Community College at home this Wednesday night at 6:00 in another very important conference match, come on out and support the girls!
