Riley Named to the Cara Bryant All-Tournament Team

The team played Cayuga first and defeated them in two:  25-23 and 25-12.  They faced the #6 nationally ranked undefeated Monroe next and ended up taking them to three sets but falling short:  17-25, 25-21, and 13-15.  The girls came out on fire the second set and were up the whole way in set three.  Finally, the third set was tied 12 - 12 and Jefferson made two unforced mental errors causing Monroe to capture the third set.  This was the most intense volleyball played by Jefferson all season and the team was certainly proud of their efforts, the whole gym was rooting for the upset.  On Saturday the team started out playing #5 nationally ranked undefeated Northampton and fell short in two sets:  16-25 and 16-25.  In the last round of pool play the Cannoneers beat Herkimer in two sets 25-22 and 25-11.  This placed the team in the fifth spot to face Finger Lakes and the ladies were victorious in three sets:  17-25, 25-15, and 15-9.  This sent JCC to the semi-finals only to face Monroe again, falling short in two:  12-25 and 14-25.  The finals were staged with the two nationally ranked teams and Northampton ended up taking the tournament in three sets.  Monroe, however, defeated Northampton in pool play so both teams were unable to keep their undefeated streaks going.  All in all, the ladies played very hard in preparation for the last round of regional play this weekend at home.  Haley Riley was named to the Cara Bryant All-Tournament Team and compiled 17 service points, 33 kills, 17 blocks, and 39 digs.  Jayne Strigle once again led the defense with 36 digs but did not play at all Friday night due to injury.  Kelly Musgraves added 30 digs and 25 service points respectively.  Mel Fakatou and Grace Wallace stepped it up on Friday night playing defense for Jayne.  Mel compiled 24 kills and 22 digs while Grace added 12 digs and 12 kills.  Jenna Hibbard ended with 32 digs and 72 assists while Rachael Waite added 31 digs.  Nikki Wormwood finished with 13 digs and 23 service points, Samantha Storey added 7 service points and Miquella Farris had 5.  Marissa Brown was big at the net adding 10 kills and 7 blocks while Olivia Heiler added 6 assists.  It was certainly a team effort and the ladies look ahead to a tough weekend at home but a very important one, hoping to clinch the #6 spot headed in to Regionals.  Come out and support the team at 10:00 on Saturday and 6:00 on Wednesday for Sophomore Night!
