The Lady Cannoneers Sweep the Cayuga Lady Spartans

The Lady Cannoneers defeated Cayuga in three sets in a crucial conference/regional match last night.  It was the annual "Pink-Out" game as well as sophomore night, Miquella Farris, Olivia Heiler, and Grace Wallace were honored before the start of their last home game.  Jefferson went out to a quick start in game one and never looked back, final scores were:  25-20, 25-17, and 25-8. Cassie Birth led the way with 12 kills, 17 digs, and 15 service points.  Alea Gentles also had a big night with 6 kills and 3 blocks while Grace Wallace added 5 kills and 15 digs.  Chloe Stinebrickner played a great game compiling 28 assists, 3 blocks, and 6 digs.  Jenna Scott chipped in 6 digs and 7 service points, Kaety Hanlin finished with 3 kills, while Dia MacKay added 3 blocks.  The pressure is off this weekend since there are no regional matches until October 17th.  The team will travel to OCC for the Cara Bryant Invitational Tournament on Friday.

Congratulations and Good Luck to the Following Sophomores that were honored last night:

Captain Miquella Farris:  Miquella is majoring in Math & Science here at JCC and plans on transferring to a pharmacy school after graduation in the Spring.  As our right side hitter this year she has compiled 74 kills and 101 digs.  Miquella brings a lot of fire to the team and works hard every day.  She is the first to celebrate a kill and strives to keep this young team in line both on and off the court.  Miquella's advice to next year's team is, "stay mentally strong throughout the whole season."

Olivia Heiler:  Olivia is majoring in Criminal Justice and her plans are to transfer to Albany to finish out her degree.  As one of our two setters Olivia has 62 assists, 44 service points, and 40 digs.  We have missed Olivia over the past two weeks due to sickness but are hopeful she will be able to return soon to finish out the season as we charge towards Regionals.  She loves the game of volleyball and always pushes her teammates to be the best they can be.  Olivia's advice to next year's team is, "frustration is not your friend."

Grace Wallace:  Grace is majoring in Humanities and Social Sciences, and like most college students, she has no idea what she wants to do after JCC!!!  As an outside hitter Grace has racked up 78 kills, 167 digs, and 159 service points so far.  Grace can easily spark this team with an amazing dig, her speed is unmatched, and her love of volleyball is evident when she steps out on the court.  Grace's advice to next year's team is, "go for every ball, don't be afraid to dive into some chairs!"

From Coach Kolenda:  "I would like to thank these three sophomores for their dedication over the past two years.  A lot of weight has been put on their shoulders to carry this young, small team to the finish line at Regionals.  Although we have had our set-backs, we have always found a way to charge ahead, and it is because of their leadership we are able to do this.  Congratulations on all of your accomplishments so far, but we still have three more weeks of hard work left."
