Cannoneer Women's and Men's Basketball Recap

Women's Basketball Recap

The Lady Cannoneer's capped off another successful week of conference play completing the week with a 2-1 record. Currently sitting 3rd place in the conference, The Lady Cannoneer's started the week off with a win on the road over Cayuga Community College. Morgan Kiernan led the charge supplying 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 steals. "Morgan's performance may have been her best all around performance in a Cannoneer uniform to date." Coach Woodward.   Jasmine Canady also supplied 22 points in the Mid State Conference win.

The Lady Cannoneers matched up against Onondaga Community College on Thursday night. A highly anticipated match up for the Lady Cannoneer's, they started the game off confidently posting an early lead. Jasmine Canady led the way with 22 points in a very physical game that saw the Lady Cannoneer's come up short. "Thursday nights game against OCC came down to a 4 minute stretch in the first half where we made a couple silly mistakes turning the ball over against their press. For 36 minutes we proved we can play with whom ever we are matched up against. This game albeit not the outcome we desired is going to be a great step forward for our girls." Coach Woodward

Sunday afternoon found The Lady Cannoneers on the road yet again. Playing their 5th road game in 7 games. A long bus ride to Corning is no easy feat to overcome. A slow start and a packed in zone defense from The Lady Barons posed an early problem for the Lady Cannoneers. Trailing 32-30 at half a change in defense, and an increased intensity found the Lady Cannoneer's with a 66-58 win. "Any road win in the conference is a good win, especially at Corning. Dalian Ramos picked us up greatly in the second half today. She gave us 7 or 8 solid minutes, tipping passes, diving on loose balls, and playing all out on the defensive end. She gave us the spark off the bench we have been looking for." Coach Woodward.   Morgan Kiernan, and Tapulei Vaveao led the way offensively each notching 17 points. Tapulei knocked down a career high 5 three point baskets, in a huge second half outburst. Jasmine Canady the second leading scorer in the region supplied 15 points and a career high 9 assists.
