The Lady Cannoneers Fall in the 2014 Torchia Classic Championship Game

On Saturday night the Jefferson Women's Basketball team started the 2014-15 season in the 2014 Torchia Classic at Mohawk Valley Community College.  The Lady Cannoneers opened up against Globe Institute and Technology.  Overcoming a slow start Jefferson rifled off 75 points in an out of region victory that saw a balanced and unselfish offensive attack from the Lady Cannoneers.  Alyssa Crosby led the way with 22 points, while Kathleen Coloney wasn't far behind with 21 points.  The two captain sophomores dominated the paint at both ends, picking up where they left off last season.  The win saw the Lady Cannoneers advancing to the championship game for the third straight year!

On Sunday Jefferson faced off against Mohawk Valley for the third straight year in the championship game.  The last two years have seen both teams split the championship, Jefferson winning last year on a buzzer beater from freshman Alyssa Crosby.  This year posed to be a high physcial match up from both teams.  The Lady Hawks used the home court and fan support to its advantage jumping out to a multiple possession lead right away.  Falling behind early ended up being too big of a hole to crawl out of, Jefferson battled for 40 minutes, stringing together several runs.  But each run not extensive enough to fight back.  Sophomores Alyssa Crosby, Kathleen Coloney, and Kristin McGraw led the scoring attack.

The Lady Cannoneers have a week of practice before their home opener this Saturday against Herkimer at 1 pm!
