Sophomores Honored in Last Home Game of the Season

Kristin McGraw:

Kristin finds herself in the midst of one of the best shooting seasons in Cannoneer history. A long range threat from deep, Kristin has currently hit 63 three point field goals in 17 games. Kristin is currently this year's second leading scorer averaging 15.5 points per game and grabbing 5 rebounds a game. Kristin on two separate occasions this year set and then tied her own school record for 3 point field goals made in a game with 8!

Coach Woodward on Kristin:

When Kristin transferred back to Jefferson last spring I was very excited about her joining our program. Little did I know what quality of a young lady we were receiving; a very talented ball player, an exceptional student, and one class A individual. What most surprised me about Kristin is her uncanny sense of humor and ability to make everyone laugh at the drop of a hat. But don't let her quiet and laid back style fool you; Kristin has been one of my hardest workers, intent listeners, and all around great kids. Kristin, I am so happy you joined us over the last year and a half. I wish you nothing but the best of luck after Jefferson, and our gym is always your gym… "JWB"

Kathleen Coloney:

Over the last 2 years Kathleen Coloney has enjoyed tremendous success on the floor. Kathleen over her career is averaging 11.5 points per game, 8.6 rebounds per game, and 2 blocks per game. She has just cracked the 500 career 500 point club, and is within reaching distance of the 400 rebound marker. Kathleen established career highs this year in a win against Finger Lakes with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

Coach Woodward on Kathleen:

I have never witnessed anyone who is a harder worker than Kathleen is. On and off the floor Kathleen puts more time and effort into her work than anyone I have ever known. A tireless worker, this can be seen in her transformation from last fall until now not only as a basketball player but in her growth as a person.  Kathleen from day one until now has been the most improved player I have ever had, and she deserves nothing less. Kathleen's quiet demeanor and minute visible emotion may fool some, but I have been fortunate enough to coach one of the fiercest and most competitive girls around. Success in your future is inevitable, and standing here I couldn't be more proud. I can't wait to see what the next step brings! I truly can't thank you enough for everything you have done for us, our gym will always be your gym… "JWB"

Alyssa comes to Jefferson having completed one of the best high school careers in Hammond C.S history. It seems as though success was only inevitable for such a talented young lady. Alyssa finds herself completing one of the best statistical careers in Jefferson Women's Basketball history.  Over her two year career Alyssa has averaged 18.8 points per game, 11.4 rebounds per game, and 2.2 blocked shots per game. Alyssa has a chance to become the second player ever in school history to accumulate 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

Coach Woodward on Alyssa:

Alyssa was one of the most physically gifted high school basketball players I have ever seen. We knew Alyssa was going to be good for our program, but even in our wildest dreams we couldn't have imagined what her presence in a game would do for us. In just her second game as a freshman Alyssa in Alyssa Crosby fashion managed to make the game winning basket verses # 2 nationally ranked Mohawk Valley at Mohawk Valley giving us one of the biggest victories in recent history. Along with co-captain and teammate Kathleen Coloney I have continued to push every button I could find to get a reaction, a response to failure, to find some sort of feedback in how hard they were willing to work. I still haven't found that particular button for either kid. Alyssa steps up to every challenge, meets it, beats it, and moves on to the next. I couldn't be more proud of and for anyone more than Alyssa with all the recognition she receives for her accomplishments on the floor. Lyss, I truly can't thank you enough for everything you have done for our program, our gym is always your gym… "JWB"

Lucy Smoot:

Over the last two years Lucy Smoot has played in games and practices with the most heart, and determination of anyone who has ever played for me. Drastically undersized for her position, Lucy finds herself battling against girls several inches taller every day but has yet to back down from the challenge. As a sophomore Lucy is enjoying her best season yet. She has recorded career highs in rebounds in two separate games this semester and a career high in points against Tompkins Cortland recording 5 points and 7 rebounds.

Coach Woodward on Lucy:

Lucy's nickname says it all "Smiley". Over the last two years Lucy has shown nothing short of extreme dedication to our program and teammates. Having a player that shows up to practice and plays and works as hard as Lucy does is something that is immeasurable to a program. Lucy has always been willing to do all those little things that go unrecognized to most, but are the most important and crucial aspects of a basketball program. If your dedication and work ethic to our program is an indication of the rest of your personal and professional career success is right around the corner! Smiley, I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for our program over the last two years. Our gym will forever be your gym… "JWB"
