The Lady Cannoneers End Another Successful Season

The Lady Cannoneers End Another Successful Season

On Friday the Jefferson Women's Basketball team entered regional play as this year's five seed. Facing off with familiar foe Fulton Montgomery in a re-match of last year's Semi-Final showdown. The Lady Cannoneer's took the early lead on the stellar play from the sophomore trio of Kathleen Coloney, Alyssa Crosby, and Kristin McGraw. Taking an 8 point lead into the locker room, a three point basket from Marisa Garland, and consecutive lay ups from Crosby extended their lead to 15 in the first two minutes of the second half. The lady Cannoneer's would never look back recording a 72-54 regional quarterfinal victory. Crosby led the way recording 27 points, and 14 rebounds. On a free throw in the first half Crosby eclipsed the 1,000 point marker for a career. She becomes only the 3rd player ever in Women's basketball history joining former teammate Jasmine Canady ( 1,095), and two time All-American Jennifer Podvin (1,245). On the day Crosby also eclipsed the 600 rebound marker. In her career she totaled 621 rebounds in two years placing her 4th all-time.

The Lady Cannoneer's earned their 2nd consecutive trip to the Regional Semifinals with their victory over Fulton Montgomery on Friday. They faced off with Mid-State Athletic Conference rival Onondaga CC. The match up was the 4th of the year and the 7th in the last two. OCC jumped on the Lady Cannoneers with a quick 15 point lead 10 minutes into the first half. The deficit posed to be too much to overcome, with just 5 minutes left in the first half OCC had pushed the lead to 17. Jefferson outscored OCC by 2 points for the final 25 minutes of play, but couldn't piece together any substantial runs. OCC's lead shrunk to 9 with just 11 minutes left but timely free throws by OCC's Brittany Anderson halted any further damage. Co-Captains and Sophomore duo Kathleen Coloney, and Alyssa Crosby led the charge for Jefferson Coloney totaled 22 points and 7 rebounds, while Crosby tallied 23 points and 13 rebounds. Coach Woodward's comment on this year's Regional Tournament and season " I couldn't be more proud of how hard our kids played this weekend, and year. To see Kat and Lyss play as exceptionally as they did in their final two games makes me glow with pride. I take great pride in the quality of individuals we have in our program and you'll find no better individual than those two young women. We had another successful year, and we grow substantially as a whole. I hate to see our sophomores go, and it's going to be an awful hard transition for us, but they all have bright futures and successful careers ahead of them. I'll take great pride in seeing those accomplishments more than their accolades on the floor for us."

Alyssa Crosby was also named to the 2015 NJCAA Region III All-Tournament Women's Basketball team.

Next Fall Alyssa Crosby, and current student assistant Amanda Roberts will be transferring to SUNY Cortland to continue their playing careers, while Kathleen Coloney will be transferring to Clarkson University to play for the Golden Knights, and Kristin McGraw will be transferring to Kueka College to continue her playing career as well. This year's sophomore class in addition to last year's All-American selection Jasmine Canady will make 5 NCAA division III transfers for Coach Woodward and staff.
