The Current Lady Cannoneers take on the Former Lady Cannoneer Alumni

On Friday night the Lady Cannoneers met up with the Lady Cannoneer Alumni for this year's 2016 Robert F. Williams Alumni game. The Alumni were represented by players who played from years dating back to 1991 through 2015-16. Two time All-American and Jefferson Women's Basketball All-Time leading scorer Jen Podvin headlined the star-studded Alumni, as she was accompanied by fellow All-American Jennifer Williams from the 1998 and 1999 Regional Championship teams.

The current Lady Cannoneer's jumped out to a significant early second quarter lead of 32-12. But the Alumni fought valiantly to cut down the Cannoneer lead at halftime to 37-24. Tara Cavalet formerly Tara Gervera led the charge with 6 first half points, followed by Jen Podvin and Joelle Percy's 4 points. Returning point guard and sophomore captain Riley Luckie led the current roster with 9 first half points, behind 3 3-point field goals, while sophomore guard Mikayla Horton added 7 first half points. The second half saw the Alumni outscore the current Lady Cannoneer's by 1 point for a final score of 70-58.

Both teams saw contributions from everyone involved, and the current Lady Cannoneer's suited up 11 players, with each and every one contributing! Coach Woodward was very pleased with their performance stating "With the little preparation time we had this year, I was very pleased with how the girls played. It's never easy the first time you take the floor in front of fans and former players. We did a lot of real good things, and we see a lot of things that we need to work on in the coming weeks." The Lady Cannoneer roster is an even split with 6 returning sophomores and 6 incoming freshman. With roughly three weeks until the season tips off Coach Woodward is optimistic about the coming weeks. "We have a great group of kids this year, so far everyone has adapted very well, and we've been able to get some solid work in. The next 3 weeks are very important, and then we are off and running! It should be another exciting year!

Returning Alumni included: Nicole Perry Moore, Courtney Harrington, Amy Macdonald Reinke, Julie Burgess, Jennifer Podvin Richmond, Tara Gervera Cavalet, Courtney Tryon, Danielle Donie Blunden, Joelle Percy, Alicia Uhlein, Jen Williams, Kendra Bates, Meredith Bossinger, Krystal Wheeler, and Andrea Beach.  Also in attendance rooting on their fellow Alumni were Sonya Comins, Joy Zimmerman, Diana Hadlock, Jennifer Jones, Vicky Kolb, and Jana Cox.
