The Lady Cannoneers Fall in Home Opener but Bounce Back on Sunday

On Saturday The Lady Cannoneers tipped off their home opener of the 2016-17 season against Region III opponent SUNY Adirondack.  The Lady Cannoneers were playing catch up all day, trying to battle back from a slow start and sluggish first half.  Jefferson trailed by 6 at halftime and 7 after 3 quarters. Sophomore guard Mikayla Horton led the Lady Cannoneer's in scoring with 12 points. While Sophomore forward Kali Eyles grabbed 11 rebounds, in an attempt to accomplish their first comeback win of the year. In the end the Lady Cannoneer's fell short with a final score of 57-49 Adirondack.

With a quick turnaround from Saturday's game, The Lady Cannoneer's bounced back to face Hudson Valley Community College at home in the McVean Center Gymnasium. The Lady Cannoneer's flipped the script from Saturday's slow start to jump out to an early first quarter lead of 24-12, and a halftime lead of 40-26. Sophomore duo Mikayla Horton and Kali Eyles led the way on Sunday, Horton netted a career high 19 points and dished out 5 assists. While Eyles recorded her second double-double of the year with 15 points, and 15 rebounds. Ten players scored for Jefferson on the day, while they dished out a season high 19 assists on 29 field goals!
The Lady Cannoneer's next play the Nationally 3rd rank team in the Nation and Region III Rival Mohawk Valley on Wednesday night at 6 pm on the Mohawk Valley Campus in Utica, NY.
