Lady Cannoneers Lost the Battle with the Lady Raiders

On Sunday afternoon the Jefferson Women's Basketball team traveled down to Fulton-Montgomery Community College for an early season Region 3 showdown with the Lady Raiders. The early story saw Fulton-Montgomery jump out to an early lead 13-2 on their home floor. Jefferson clawed and fought their way back to a 21-16 deficit at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter posed a similar story with Fulton-Montgomery jumping out to another large lead this time holding a 12 point lead. Yet again the Lady Cannoneer's would fight back and close the deficit to 49-45 at the half. Seven Lady Cannoneer's contributed baskets in the first half on 13 first half assists. Fulton would jump out to another large lead for most of the third quarter extending their lead back to 12 points with three minutes left in the third quarter. Three late field goals for the Lady Cannoneer's would cut that deficit back to 6 points headed into the fourth. Entering the fourth quarter Jefferson would continue to fight back  eventually drawing even at 68-68 with 7:46 to play. Then eventually taking a brief one point lead with roughly two minutes and thirty seconds left. The comeback came up just short in the end. Fulton-Montgomery would go on to win 81-79. Jefferson was able to lengthen the game and get a decent look at a tie with seconds left on the clock, but came up just short. Sophomore guard Sierra Fleming notched 23 points, and 6 rebounds. Freshman guard Ashlyn Eyles contributed 18 points, and the Freshman front court duo of Alyson Crosby, and Chelsey Raven contributed 15 and 10 respectfully. "I really can't be more happy with the level of fight our team has. We've played two very good basketball teams this past week and been on both sides of two great games. Fulton has a lot of talent and they defended their home floor very well today. We are going to put this one in the memory bank and move on." Stated Coach Woodward after the game.  The Lady Cannoneer's will have a quick turnaround before their last game before the holiday break against Davis College at home on Tuesday November 20, 2018 at 5 pm.
