Cannoneers Sweep Tough Cougars on Road
The Lady Cannoneers traveled to Batavia to battle perennial contender Genesee on Thursday for a double header. Jefferson was able to pick up the sweep with scores of 11-6 and 7-5.
Game 1 was a back and forth battle that saw Genesee jump out to a 3-0 early lead. Paige Morgia responded in the third inning waking up the Jefferson bats with a lead off home run. The offensive spark was lit as the Cannoneers were able to pound out 15 more hits over the last four innings. Paige finished a single short of a cycle following her home run up with a double and triple. Freshman Jane Judware was also hot at the plate finishing 3 for 4 and driving in 2 runs.
Game 2 was just as exciting as the first. Seeing Jefferson jump out to a 5-0 start only to have Genesee respond with 5 runs of their own in the fifth inning. With the Game tied 5-5 in the 7th inning Senior Captain Jessica Dobson-Tufo stepped up and provided the biggest hit of her career. Driving a deep 2 run home run over the left field fence. Jessica finished the game with a monster stat line going 3 for 4 at the plate with a double, triple, and home run. With her hot bat driving in 4 runs she was able to score 3 herself.
