Lady Cannoneers Sweep the Lady Timberwolves

Jefferson Softball travels to SUNY Adirondack to take on the Timberwolves in a Saturday doubleheader.  Game 1, the bats were cold for both teams as entering the 7th inning, the Cannoneers led just 3-1.  An RBI sac fly from Emily Birmingham in the 1st, an RBI fielder's choice for Hailey McGrew in the 4th, and a wild pitch in the 6th would be the only Jefferson scoring entering the final inning.  Despite the slow start, however, the Cannoneers would explode for 13 runs in the 7th inning to pull away.  Jefferson would send 18 batters to the plate in this inning, with 8 different players recording an RBI. Katie Call would tally 3 RBIs in the 7th.  Emily Birmingham was solid once again in the circle, holding the Timberwolves to just 1 run over 6 innings pitched.  Mackenzie Lane would pitch the 7th making her collegiate debut in the circle. Jefferson would win game 1 16-3.

Game 2 the bats would go cold again.  The Cannoneers would go up 1-0 early on thanks to a fielding error by the Timberwolves.  Jefferson would see no offense again until the 7th inning.  Adirondack would take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 7th off of a wild pitch, putting the Jefferson backs up against the wall with one last chance to drive a few runs in.  The top of the Jefferson order would answer the call as Birmingham led the inning off with a single, followed by back to back bunt singles for Kiannah Ward and Katie Call.  Hailey McGrew would follow the bunts with an RBI hit by pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game with still no outs.  Mackenzie Lane would be due up with a chance to be a hero and comes through with a fly ball deep enough to score Ward from third base as Jefferson walks off Adirondack 3-2.  Delaney Wiley pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs (1ER) and striking out 8 batters in a winning effort.
