Lady Cannoneers Split with Corning

The Cannoneers look to wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader against the #1 team in the region: the Corning Red Barons.  Game 1 the Cannoneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead due to a failed squeeze bunt attempt leading to Delaney Wiley stealing home in the first inning.  Unfortunately for Jefferson, the offense would be hitless until the fifth inning when Wiley poked a double the other way.  Pitching and defense were not rolling for the Cannoneers as the Red Barons would score 14 runs with only 3 being earned.  efferson drops game 1 14-1.

Game 2 was a redemption game for Jefferson. Once again, Jefferson would score first off of a costly Corning error with the bases loaded that allowed Kate Adams to score from third. Katie Call would add to the Jefferson run total in the sixth with an RBI single that got by the center fielder allowing for a second run to score on the play.  Hailey McGrew would drive in Kiannah Ward with a ground ball to second for a three run sixth inning.  It was a battle for Emily Birmingham in the circle.  The Red Barons would apply constant pressure to Birmingham and the Cannoneer defense with bases loaded in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings.  Delaney Wiley cut down a runner at the plate in the second inning, and Birmingham would strand two runners in the third. Even with all the traffic on the basepaths, the Cannoneers found a way to strand each and every runner holding Corning to 0 runs for the first time against an in-region opponent.  Jefferson wins game 2 4-0 to split the series.
