Jefferson Softball Travel to Utica to Take on the Mohawk Valley Hawks

The Cannoneers dropped game 1 by a score of 2-1.  The Cannoneer's offense had difficulty getting anything going against Hawk's starting pitcher Joy Stevens, managing only 3 hits over 7 innings.  Kaylee Johnson had two of Jefferson's 3 hits.  The Cannoneers would have the tying and go ahead runs on base in the top of the 7th with one out, but were unable to bring them around.   Georgia Barton took her first pitching loss of the season throwing 5 strong innings allowing 7 hits.

In game 2 the Cannoneers plated single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings to spot starting pitcher Sarah Johnson a 2 - 0 lead.  Johnson cruised through the first 5 innings allowing no hits and walking one.  A couple of fielding errors to begin the 6th inning put 2 Hawks on base.  A single would load the bases and the Hawks would take a 4-2 lead on a Grand Slam Home Run.  That would be all the scoring as the Cannoneers were unable to mount a comeback.  Johnson allowed only those 2 hits over 7 innings, striking out 5.  Six Cannoneer hitters had hits in the game.  Leah Briones hit her second triple of the year and Isabella Soluri and Riley Dowlearn each singled and drove in a run.

The Cannoneers will look to get back in the win column as they go on the road on Saturday April 3 to take on Cayuga Community College in a doubleheader beginning at noon, in Auburn.
