Lady Cannoneers Split with the Lady Timberwolves

April 11, 2021 SUNY Jefferson Softball traveled to SUNY Adirondack for a doubleheader.  Game 1 would see the Cannoneers strike early by scoring 8 runs in the first inning.  SUNY Adirondack would begin to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning scoring 5 runs off SUNY Jefferson starter Georgia Barton.  Timberwolves relief pitcher Chesnie York allowed only 1 Jefferson run in the 2nd through 7th innings as the Timberwolves would chip away at the lead scoring 2 runs in the 4th and 2 more in the 6th inning to tie the game against Cannoneers reliever Sarah Johnson.  The 8th inning started with a runner on second due to the International Tie Breaker Rule and both teams were able to plate 2 runs in the 8th.  The Cannoneers were unable to score in the top of the 9th and the Timberwolves would win the game in the bottom of the inning on a walk off sacrifice fly.   SUNY Jefferson was lead offensively by Leah Briones who was 2-3 with a double, a homerun, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.  Sarah Johnson went 3-5 with 3 runs batted in.

In game 2 the Timberwolves went ahead 3 - 0 after 2 and a half innings as a result of a couple of timely hits against Jefferson starter Georgia Barton and a couple of Cannoneer miscues in the field.  Jefferson would tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd inning via a 3-run homerun by Leah Briones that was crushed far over the right center field fence.  Adirondack would plate single runs in the 4th and 5th innings to lead by a 5-3 score.  The Cannoneers would plate single runs in the 5th and 6th inning to tie the game at 5.  Sarah Johnson, who entered the circle in the top of the 6th,  would hold the Timberwolves scoreless the rest of the game.   Isabella Soluri lead off the bottom of the 7th inning by drawing a lead off base on balls.  Soluri would advance all the way to third on Kaylee Johnson's sacrifice bunt that the Timberwolves threw into right field.  Sarah Johnson would end the game by driving in Soluri with a single up the middle earning the Cannoneers a split for the day.  For the Cannoneers Leah Briones was 2-4 with the homerun and 4 runs batted in and Logan Kirchoff and Justine White chipped in with 2 hits apiece in the victory.

The Cannoneers record improves to 8-4 and they host Cayuga Community College on Tuesday April 13th for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
