Lady Cannoneers Punch Their Ticket to Rochester, MN

This past weekend SUNY Jefferson hosted the 2025 NJCAA Region 3 Women's Basketball Championships.  #1 Onondaga, #2 SUNY Jefferson, #3 Hudson Valley, #4 Herkimer, #5 Fulton-Montgomery, #6 Mohawk Valley, #7 Finger Lakes, and #8 Cayuga all competed for the title of the 2025 NJCAA Region 3 Women's Basketball Champions.  The Lady Cannoneers came away with the crown, punching their ticket to the National Championship Tournament, held in Rochester, Minnesota March 10th-March 16th.  On Friday afternoon Jefferson started off the tournament facing Fingerlakes Community College,  Delaney Wiley, LaKaiya Butcher, Kori Nichols, and Abby Raven all scored double figures to defeat the Lady Lakers 66-47.  Next up for JCC was Hudson Valley which they faced on Saturday afternoon.  Again, Jefferson came out strong, with LaKaiya Butcher scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds leading the way to a 79-57 win over the Lady Vikings. Also contributing to the cause was Delaney Wiley and Kori Nichols each with 14 points, and Lily Dupee and Aaliyah O'Donnell with 8 points each.  Now on to Championship Sunday, where the Lady Cannoneers faced the Lady Generals of Herkimer.  With a gym packed full of spectators waiting with anticipation for Jefferson to be crowned the Champions, the Lady Cannoneers gave them what they were waiting for!  Jefferson came ready to play!  JCC was up 22-8 after the first quarter then finished the half 45-18.  After half-time they never looked back defeating Herkimer 71-47.  LaKaiya Butcher led all scores with 22 points, followed by Abby Raven with 15 and Kori Nichols and Delaney Wiley each with 11.  LaKaiya and Abby each pulled down 12 rebounds.
