Jefferson Baseball Take 2 from the Hawks

Game 1 of Thursday's home double header versus division rival Mohawk Valley saw a big comeback victory for JCC. The Hawks would get out to a 5-1 lead in the 5^th inning, but JCC would score in each of the final 5 innings of play. JCC was down 5-3 in the 7^th inning before tying the game at 5, forcing extra innings. Braiden Bley and Omari Williams would reach base and then double steal to 2^nd and 3rd, before Allen Benton would hit a walk-off single in the 8^th inning. Bley pitched 4 2/3 innings, then Nathan Eccelston pitched 3 1/3 scoreless in relief to earn the win. Anthony Celar would lead the JCC offense with a double and 2 RBI, while Robert Leyva would leg out 2 triples.

Game 2 of the double header provided to be a nice game on both sides of the ball for JCC. Mekhi Smithwick led the way on the mound, pitching 5 innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5. Daniel Storey kept the Hawks at bay throwing 2 innings in relief, allowing 1 run and striking out 1. Ryan Murnane would pace the Cannoneers' 10-run effort with a double and 4 RBI. Anthony Celar would provide 2 RBI. Omari Williams collected 2 hits and stole 3 bases. Nick Spivey caught both games of the double header and slugged a triple in game 2. JCC will face MVCC again on Tuesday April 1^st to complete the 4 game series.
