Jefferson Community College Hockey Steals a win over LeMoyne College

Game 18: Sunday February 5th Lemoyne College vs. JCC at the MAAC

In the first period, the Cannoneers got off to a hot start when Zach Blevins caught a pass up the middle from Benjamin Wiley who found Kyle Gionet down the wing who scored to put JCC up 1-0 six minutes in. A minute later Le Moyne struck back to make things 1-1 where the score would not change going into the first intermission.

A minute into the second period, the Cannoneers struck again as Cameron Winebar led a nice individual effort that led to a goal giving JCC the lead 2-1. Seven minutes later, the dolphins scored to tie it up once again at 2-2. Before the end of the period, Lenny Dormio made some crucial saves to send the game tied at 2 into intermission.

The cannoneers started the third period on a 5 on 3 penalty kill and Le Moyne was able to convert twice to take the lead 4-2 with only 9 minutes left to play in regulation. The cannoneers then ended up with a 5 on 3 powerplay chance of their own with 7 minutes left and struck back with two of their own. First it was Casey Wilson who knocked a puck home in front on a shot from Kyle Gionet. 13 seconds later it was Ben Wiley from the point with an absolute rocket of a shot that found its way into the top corner to tie things up at 4 with 6 minutes to play. Things stayed tightly contested until 33 seconds left when once again JCC converted on the powerplay as Kyle Gionet capped a scramble in front with an assist from Ben Wiley to secure the win 5-4 in the dying seconds.

Key players of the game were Kyle Gionet and Benjamin Wiley who each notched 3 point nights and also Casey Wilson who had a goal and an assist in the Win. Player of the game went to Lenny Dormio in net who had 35 saves and a lot of big ones to keep the team in it the entirety of the game. The Cannoneers now find themselves in third in the league standings with 3 league games left to play. They will be back in action at Paul Smiths on Friday night in a rematch of another big league game.
