Jefferson Hockey Fights But Loses to Rochester University 9-5

On Friday night the Cannoneer hockey team faced off against the University of Rochester in a non-league game looking to make a statement. The first period came fast and furious at JCC as they let up 5 goals with no answer sending them into the first intermission down 5-0.

With the first period behind them, Jefferson started to chip into the lead, as 10 minutes into the period Benjamin Wiley scored a power play goal assisted by Ryan Blevins and right away Zachary Blevins scored unassisted to cut the lead to 5-2 and to give the cannoneers some life. Rochester then answered back with two of their own and at the end of the period Zach Blevins scored assisted by Cameron Winebar to send them to intermission down 7-3.

In the third period, the Cannoneers came out hot scoring on the power play just 6 seconds into the period when Cameron Winebar tipped a puck in past the goalkeeper on a nice pass from Casey Wilson. 5 minutes later Zach Blevins took a pass from Ben Wiley and scored once again on the power play to cut the lead to 7-5. JCC then fought to try and tie the game with the crowd in it and all of the momentum behind them. After a couple unfortunate penalties, Rochester would score 2 power play goals late to finish the game off 9-5.

Zachary Blevins ended the game with a hat trick, Benjamin Wiley, and Cameron Winebar each had 1 goal and 1 assist in the loss. Andrew Stone and Leonard Dormio had a combined 36 saves. The cannoneers will look to rebound on Sunday in Skidmore for a big league game.
