JCC Hockey skates past OCC with an 8-5 win!

On Sunday afternoon, the Cannoneers Hockey team took on the Onondaga Community College Lazers in a non-league game. In the first period, JCC got off to a hot start as Zach Blevins took a feed from Casey Wilson to open the scoring 20 seconds into the contest up 1-0. 3 minutes later it was Blevins again this time on the power play from Ben Wiley to give JCC a early 2-0 lead. At the end of the period OCC snuck one into the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1 going into intermission.

To start the second 40 seconds in Zach Blevins finished off the hat trick scoring again this time from his brother Ryan Blevins to extend the lead. On minute later it was Jack Mills on the power play from Ben Wiley and Zach Blevins to give JCC a 4-1 lead. OCC cut the lead to 4-2 but the Cannoneers quickly struck back as Sam Stone scored on a feed from David Stern, Tyler Wilson then scored from Sam Stone, and Jack Mills scored another on a nice play as Owen Newton and Casey Wilson pick up assists. OCC did not go down without a fight though as they scored 2 in the last 5 minutes of the period to take them into the intermission down 7-4.

The third period was very tightly contested as both teams locked it down defensively and only conceded one goal each. Carson Barrett scored on a feed from Sam Stone and the Cannoneers end up winning this won in a score of 8-5.

Notable players in this one were Zach Blevins who scored 3 and had an assist. Sam Stone had a goal and 2 assists and Jack Mills scored two of his own. Owen Newton played a really strong game both ways earning the game puck and an assist and Andrew Stone and Lenny Dormio combined to make 41 saves in the win. The cannoneers now move to 12-8 overall with their next matchup against the University of Rochester coming at the Haldan Arena in Pulaski on Friday, February 16th at 7:30p.m.
