JCC Shuts Out Paul Smiths College in First Round of Playoffs 6-0

Saturday afternoon, the Cannoneers faced off in the first round of playoffs with Paul Smith's college, a team who had beaten the cannoneers both times they met this season. JCC started the game out hot when Zachary Blevins sent one past the goaltender 45 seconds in to give Jefferson an early lead. 5 minutes later it was Zach Blevins again, this time taking a pass from Ryan Blevins and putting it in the back of the net to send JCC into the first intermission up 2-0.

In the second period, 8 minutes, Jefferson caught a three on zero break on the penalty kill as Tyler Wilson sent a pass to Zach Blevins who fed Cameron Winebar on the backdoor to extend the lead to 3-0 JCC. In this frame Lenny Dormio made some crucial saves to keep Paul Smith's off the board and giving JCC the momentum. Just before the period expired, David Stern took a stretch pass from Casey Wilson who converted on the breakaway and sent the Cannoneers into the dressing room with a 4-0 lead.

In the third, the Cannoneers entered shutdown mode playing conservative on the offensive end and focusing on defense. On the power play though, Casey Wilson took a nice feed from Cameron Winebar, and BenjaminWiley to give JCC a 5-0 lead before Zach Blevins completed the hattrick on a pass from Casey Wilson to end the game 6-0.

The player of the game was undoubtedly Lenny Dormio who notched the first shutout in program history making 41 phenomenal saves. Without him, winning this game would have been much more difficult. The cannoneers with this statement win now move on to the second round of the UNYCHL division 2 playoffs at Colgate University where they will look to punch their ticket to the final four in Buffalo this Sunday afternoon.
