Lady Cannoneers Close Out Semester With a Sweep at Home

Saturday vs Herkimer College

The Cannoneers went on a 10-0 run to the middle of the first quarter and held a 16-4 lead heading into the second.  Jefferson outscored the Generals 23-11 in the second to expand the lead to 39-15 at the half.  The Cannoneers went on 15-5 run to start the 3rd, before Herkimer put on a 10-2 run of their own to finish the quarter down 59-29.  Jefferson cruised to an 80-42 win over Herkimer.  LaKaiya Butcher led 4 starters in double figures with 18 points (5 Assists) , Daelyn Alcock scored 16 (10 Rebounds, 6 steals) , Abby Raven and Delaney Wiley scored 14 each. Kori Nichols chipped in 7 points and 4 assists.

Sunday vs Mohawk Valley Community College

The Cannoneers hosted the #2 ranked Hawks from Mohawk Valley on Sunday.  Jefferson coming in as the third ranked team would have its hands full with the undefeated lady hawks.  After the first quarter the score was tied 11, Jefferson defense held the Hawks to 4 second quarter points and went on 14-2 run to end the second quarter and to go up 27-15.  The Jefferson defense held the Hawks to 4 second quarter points.  The cannoneers and hawks exchanged baskets the entire second half as Jefferson held a 46-37-point lead into the 4th Quarter.  The battle in the fourth quarter continued as Jefferson expanded its lead to 12 before the Hawks scrapped back to a 7-point deficit.  6 straight points by LaKaiya Butcher expanded the lead to 59-50 with 2:36 remaining.  Both teams were scoreless until Delaney Wiley hit a Free throw to go up 60-50.  Mohawk Vally hit two late baskets to cut the lead to 5 as Jefferson ran out the clock to secure the 60-55 win.  The Cannoneers were led by Kori Nichols 20 points, 6 rebounds, Abby Raven scored 15 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, LaKaiya Butcher scored 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Delaney Wiley score 6 points and had 6 assists as she held MV's top scorer to 6 points.
